Cape survives SP in season-opening OT thriller

Don't think for a minute that Cape Elizabeth's boys' lacrosse team doesn't hear the noise.

That Falmouth is this year's clear favorite, that the Capers' time has passed and that this year's team will be an also-ran.

Suffice it to say that they don't agree with that assessment.

Saturday, on a glorious afternoon at Hannaford Field, Cape Elizabeth welcomed South Portland in what proved to be an unforgettable regular season opener and while the Red Riots came oh-so-close to beating their nemesis for the first time, with the game on the line, the Capers got the job done.

As they seemingly always do.

Regardless of perception.
