Cheverus holds on for dear life, edges TA in quarterfinals

PORTLAND—Cheverus' boys' basketball team has seen too many late game leads slip away this season.

And Saturday evening at the Portland Exposition Building, the Stags appeared to be on the brink of their most painful setback yet.

As a Thornton Academy shot sailed toward the basket at the final horn of the Class A South quarterfinals.

But this time, Cheverus loved the way the contest ended, as the shot was off-target and the Stags lived to play another game.
