Cheverus slugs its way past Windham in first showdown

WINDHAM—The Windham Eagles are playing the long game.
While the reigning Class A state champion Cheverus Stags softball team simply wants to win.
Every time the Stags take the diamond.
Monday afternoon, in a highly-anticipated renewal of the teams' suddenly intense rivalry, Cheverus, which outlasted Windham in an instant classic in last year's playoffs, didn't need 10 innings to score this time around.
Only four.
And that, combined with the pitching brilliance of sophomore ace Addison DeRoche was enough to produce victory in the first of the teams' two (likely three) meetings this spring.
