Newsletter #38...Time for a quick break

Newsletter #38...Time for a quick break

Well, that was fun.

The hockey state games.

Which were preceded by an unforgettable basketball tournament.

Which was preceded by a fantastic winter sports season.

Which came on the heels of a terrific fall sports campaign.

All of it incredibly enjoyable.

It's been pretty much non-stop action since the first week of September and while the games and stories have been memorable, it's time a quick hiatus.

The spring sports season doesn't begin until Monday, March 23, when pitchers and catchers for baseball and softball report.

For everyone else, spring sports start the following Monday.

Countable games commence in mid-April and it will be a two-month made dash until champions are crowned the weekend of June 19-20.

If you blink, you'll miss it.

This newsletter will return in mid-April, around the time spring sports begin.

But there will be content in the weeks to come.

Each of the next four Mondays will see postseason all-star teams named, including a Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Team of the Year.

Teams will be revealed in the following order: Girls' hockey, girls' basketball, boys' basketball, boys' hockey.

Podcasts will continue to appear on Thursdays and there are some great guests lined up.

I'll be sneaking away to a family wedding in Arizona, then taking my bride to Curacao for a week.

I promise to be ready to return to action when I'm back.

Hail, TA...again

The Thornton Academy boys' hockey team captured its second consecutive Class A state championship and its third in four years last Saturday, rallying to edge Cheverus/Yarmouth in a thriller, 2-1.

The Golden Trojans were held scoreless for the first two periods, the only time that happened all year, but with their season and legacy on the line, they got a tying goal from junior Brennan Tabor.

That was followed by a shorthanded tally from senior standout Jake Skillings, off a perfect pass from his classmate, teammate and fellow Travis Roy Award finalist Trent LeSieur.

The Golden Trojans were clearly the state's best team all year and wound up atop the heap.

Congratulations!
