Seniors lead Cheverus past Biddeford/TA in finale to secure South Region top seed

PORTLAND—Joey Pompeo and Ellie Skolnekovich have risen to the occasion so many times in multiple sports over the past four years that it didn't come as a surprise at all that both seniors excelled in the clutch Saturday afternoon at Troubh Ice Arena.

The three-time reigning state champion Cheverus Stags hosted the team best equipped to take their regional crown, the Biddeford/Thornton Academy Tigers co-op squad, but with the top seed in the South Region hanging in the balance, the Stags weren't able to falter.

Not if Pompeo and Skolnekovich had anything to say about it.
