South Portland saves best for last to beat rival Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND—Darius Johnson wouldn't be denied.

And that's the biggest reason that South Portland's boys' basketball team was able to hold off rival Portland in an early-season showdown Friday evening at Beal Gymnasium.

The Red Riots and Bulldogs, meeting for the 241st time over the past 115 seasons, produced yet another thriller.

One which came down to the final shot.
