Yarmouth/Freeport reaches pinnacle at last, ends Cheverus' title reign with OT victory

It came down to a single goal.

One goal to win an elusive state championship.

And fulfill a goal years in the making.

And Saturday evening at Norway Savings Bank Arena, the Yarmouth/Freeport girls' hockey team, after years of close calls and 45 more minutes (and then some) of searching, finally struck gold, beating nemesis Cheverus, the three-time reigning champion, to win the state title.

And it was very much worth the wait.
