Cape Elizabeth girls lament near-miss, look forward to bright future

A new day has dawned for Cape Elizabeth's girls' basketball program.
And the Capers can't wait to write the next chapter in their story of resurgence.
After back-to-back winless seasons, Cape Elizabeth went 8-10 this winter and while they fell just short of the playoffs, with a promising young nucleus in place, there's no denying that the Capers' best is still to come.
"I feel like I found my coaching soul again," said longtime Cape Elizabeth coach Chris Casterella, after completing her 19th season. "That's what high school basketball's supposed to be. It's not necessarily about wins and championships. We all know how elusive that is and everything has to fall right. It's about competing night-in, night-out. Even when you come out on the wrong end of it, there's nothing negative to say, just that it was fun."
