SACO—If the rest of the 2026 Class A South baseball season is anything like the regular season opener, we're in for a wild, wild ride.

Thornton Academy hosted Cheverus Thursday afternoon as the teams got a jump-start on the rest of the league as a game which was expected to be a pitchers' duel wound up being just the opposite.

The end result was a seven-inning thriller, full of breathtaking, emotional twists and turns that left those on hand speechless over how it played out.
