Cheverus survives scare from Beacons thanks to two late goals

PORTLAND—A month ago, on the same sheet of ice. Cheverus' three-time reigning state champion girls' hockey team rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Cape Elizabeth/Deering/South Portland/Waynflete Beacons co-op squad.

Monday afternoon at Troubh Ice Arena, in the rematch, the Stags were expected to win with ease yet again.

But when the contest entered the second intermission, despite a big edge in possession and shots on goal, Cheverus had yet to solve Beacons junior goalie Mya Clark.

And the score was 0-0.
