SCARBOROUGH—The margin of error in a playoff baseball game between two top contenders is razor thin.

But the second-ranked Scarborough Red Storm boast a couple of advantages that no one else in the Class A South field does.

An ace that never gets rattled.

And a clutch hitter who seemingly always comes through.

Thursday afternoon at McFarland Field, reigning state champion Scarborough welcomed a dangerous seventh-ranked South Portland squad, which, like the Red Storm, knows what it takes to win narrow postseason contests.

But ultimately, Scarborough did just enough to survive and advance and keep its repeat title bid alive.
