South Portland continues close game 'Mastery,' beats Cheverus in late-season showdown

SOUTH PORTLAND—Cheverus' baseball team has stolen the show when it comes to late inning heroics this spring.

But Wednesday afternoon at Wainwright Farms, try as they might, the Stags just couldn't quite find a way to knock off South Portland in a pivotal late-season battle between two of the best squads in Class A South.

And as a result, the Red Riots remain nearly perfect on the 2026 campaign.
