YARMOUTH—Competition took center-stage Saturday at Stroud Gymnasium.

And Gibson Harnett would have loved every minute.

On a day where the host Yarmouth and Gray-New Gloucester girls' and boys' basketball teams squared off on the court, it was ultimately a day to honor Harnett, the one-time Clippers' standout, YHS Class of 2017, who passed away Jan. 4, 2024, due to a rare type of late-stage cancer called clear cell sarcoma, and the not-for-profit foundation he started, "Time to Compete," which is dedicated to bettering the lives of young adults battling cancer and providing support to their families.

Harnett's parents, Deanna and Kendall, his sister, Parker, and countless friends, former teammates and coaches were on hand, information was shared, paraphernalia was available and a community was enveloped in love and appreciation.

And oh by the way, the Patriots won the girls' game, 53-23, while the Yarmouth boys ensured a split on the day with a 52-42 victory.
