Gorham caps one-of-a-kind championship run with extra inning victory over Bangor

After waiting 21 years to reach the mountaintop, needing four additional innings to beat Bangor in the Class A state final didn't faze Gorham's baseball team in the slightest Saturday afternoon at Morton Field in Augusta.

And the end result was a coronation and celebration which won't soon be forgotten.

What a ride it was.

"It feels amazing," said Rams coach Ed Smith. "It's surreal. The biggest thing is I'm just so happy for these guys. I've coached high school baseball a long time and I've had some great teams and kids, but I can't think of a team I've coached that's had a better overall group of guys than this team.
