PORTLAND—Thornton Academy's girls' lacrosse team has ascended to the pinnacle.

And you might as well get used to seeing the Golden Trojans celebrating championship game wins.

Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field, on the campus of Deering High School, second-seeded Thornton Academy took part in its first ever state final, taking on a top-ranked Kennebunk Rams squad making its ninth appearance since 2015.

The Golden Trojans weren't overwhelmed by the moment in the slightest, never trailing, going ahead to stay early in the fourth quarter and holding on in exhilarating fashion to put the program on the map once and for all.
