Cheverus' coronation complete, but Stags get mighty scare from Hampden Academy in state game

Unlike just about everything else this spring, a state championship game victory didn't come easily for Cheverus' softball team Saturday afternoon on the campus of Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

And that's what made it so undeniably sweet.

The Stags, who steamrolled all of their regional rivals this season, were expected to have an easy time of it against Hampden Academy in the state game, but the Broncos didn't get the memo.
