Motivation was not a problem for the 2026 North Yarmouth Academy softball team.

The Panthers have had a single purpose since falling in somewhat controversial fashion in last year's regional final to Buckfield.

To avenge that loss, get back to the Class D state final and return to what they believe is their rightful perch atop the sport.

Last week the mission was accomplished for NYA, which capped a superb season with a surprisingly emphatic 14-4 victory over Penobscot in state game Saturday at St. Joseph's College, in a game which required just six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
