PORTLAND—Don't let the final score fool you.

For three-plus innings Saturday afternoon at Shea Field, the fourth-ranked Gorham Rams had the top-seeded, seemingly unbeatable Cheverus Stags on the ropes in a Class A South softball semifinal.

But the Rams, despite hitting Cheverus junior ace Addison DeRoche as well as anyone this spring, couldn't produce a run-scoring hit.

And while Gorham's senior ace, Bella McBrady, was able to go toe-to-toe with DeRoche for three innings, eventually the spell was broken.

And the end result is another trip to the regional final for the Stags.

And the end of the line for the valiant Rams.
